Longshaw Wooden Pole
The Longshaw wooden pole is looked after by the National Trust, overlooking Longshaw estate. It remains a mystery as to whether it was a boundary pole or a marker to help guide travellers back in the years of horse and carriage.
Whatever it was for, it is old. 1778 is carved into the rock at it’s base. The nearby Stanage Pole has been around since at least 1550. This view shows Stanage Edge and Higger Tor in the distance with a black grouse and one of the many Red Deer, now flourishing, in the foreground.
