Taking it to the Max - Peak District Maximalism

Like rock climbing, the whole point of creating this work was to find an edge, and push some of the things that have been going on, in my head for a while, out there onto a drawing.

There was a need to return to climbing days and find the strength gained from taking on a challenge, pushing yourself and discovering an ability you may not have remembered you had.

A cathartic exercise

I’m always drawing and visualising work in my head, thinking my way through the fundamentals of what do I want to say, does that work with that and what would make this a little bit more, what would make this piece special or is it just another work I’m going to have to file away and revisit. It can be exhausting but it can also be extraordinarily golden when you get a few things together.

A process

Love it or hate it, it doesn’t matter, art is one persons viewpoint, an opinion and an expression, crafted or otherwise, of what they want to say. I’m fortunate that deep down I am comfortable with my own decisions as to whether I have said what I want to say, done my best to express what I was wanting to say and followed a process I believe to be fresh and from the right place.

Out there

So here we are launching a work that I am proud of, a work that has taken a while to craft and something which, hopefully is a little bit different and captures a few of the feelings I have for my Peak District in my head. I hope you like it.

Kindest as ever and much love to all,

Si

Maximalism (definition)
In essence, maximalism is a design philosophy that celebrates the "more is more" approach, allowing for bold colors, layered textures, and a curated collection of items that reflect the owner's personality and passions, creating a visually stimulating and engaging space.
