Froggatt Edge
With Climbers and a Sheepdog Guard of Honour
More than simply a gritstone escarpment in the Dark Peak area of the Peak District National Park, Froggatt is a sublime piece of rock for the avid climber — a temple in which to worship the delicacies and thuggery of gritstone climbing.
Easily accessible from the Chequers Inn below, or from the main road and the Grouse Inn above, this edge has personally been the scene of many a day’s mini-adventure and one or two expeditions that may, over the years, have gone a little too far. They have left a legacy of unforgettable climbing moments — and plenty of occasions when I was thoroughly ‘gripped’.
I have drawn this miniature in honour of Arnie, the collie I shared with Dot during those climbing days of the 1980s.
