Ben Lomond, 3,193ft, 974 m., the most southerly of the Munros (mountains over 3,000ft.) overlooks the West Highland way as it passes along its eastern shore from Drymen to Inverarnan
The mountain is prominent feature of the Ben Lomond National Memorial Park and the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. The summit is the highest area of land under the property of the National Trust for Scotland, who look after the woodlands, moorland and crags, a spectacular home for diverse wildlife such as black grouse, ptarmigan, skylarks, ravens, wheatears and pine martens.
The small village of Tarbet on the lochs bank, in Gaelic is Tairbeart Loch Laomainn meaning the “Crossing Place of Loch Lomond" which it is. I know it as the beautiful railway station on the scenic West Highland line.
