Distinctive Design
A ‘Distinctive Design’ from Si Homfray – A limited Edition Fine Bone China teapot featuring the contours of Stanage Edge in the Peak District. Hand made with 24 carat gold in Stoke on Trent by Duchess Design 1888.

About The Stanage ‘Pot of Gold’
The original motivation for producing a teapot was a Peter Blake work. The ceramic company I work with in Stoke on Trent had dangled this treasure in front of me for a year. Frugality and saving meant that one could eventually sit in my workshop for a year, pride of place, in an otherwise financially quite difficult year.

Another year progressed and I kept saving until the day I could put my own design into production.
The moment came. The contours of Stanage, a spiritual home, were the obvious subject for the artwork and were no less compelling than they had been, years before, when the whole contour design idea came to life.

The core motivation was to produce something of extraordinary beauty, something of value. An honest and heartfelt need to create excellence.

Gilt guilt.

It occurred to me on many occasions, that this ultimate gilt teapot which celebrates one of the worlds most beautiful places sits in the middle of a comfortable bubble of privilege, where the harsh lives of others are often overlooked.

So it felt appropriate for such an ‘over the top’ ‘bling’ item of great luxury teapot needed to have some greater purpose, ideally to help others. The cause closest to my heart right now is Sheffield Homelessness. Hopefully ‘uber bling teapots of immeasurable luxury, but great sentimentality’ will now help others a little.
